Dan Brown, Deception Point - A satisfying read

I have never read a book by Dan Brown before, I watched the Da Vinci Code and wasn't too fussed on it, so that put me off a bit until now. I have been going through books at a fast pace recently, and the synopsis on the back of this book intrigued me:

"When a new NASA satellite detects evidence of and astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much needed victory.....a victory that has profound implications for US space policy and the impending presidential election.

With the Oval Office in the balance, the President dispatches White House Intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton to the Arctic to verify the authenticity of the find. Accompanied by a team of experts, including the charismatic academic Michael Tolland, Rachel uncovers the unthinkable - evidence of scientific trickery - a bold deception that threatens to plunge the world into controversy.

But before Rachel can make her findings known, she realises, perhaps too late, that such knowledge puts her and Tolland in deadly jeopardy. Fleeing for their lives in an environment as desolate as it is lethal, they possess only one hope for survival: to find out who is behind this masterful ploy. The truth, they will learn, is the most shocking deception of all...."

From the first page of this book i was hooked - the prologue describes a scene where the Geologist Dr Brophy is forced at gunpoint to transmit a mysterious message while he was navigating the harsh terrain of the Tundra. The author creates such vivid visualisation of the scene I felt quite nauseous reading it. It turns out this is not the only time i was to have this feeling while reading Deception Point, however it is not so much to be off-putting. The ability to evoke that strong a response from me within two and a half pages is the sign of a good book in my opinion, and i was not disappointed.

There are some very big characters in the book, which is not surprising considering it is based around a presidential election. The President and the Senator however are not the main characters and instead the focus is on the people who surround them. The book is cleverly written and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen and who did what all the way through. I guessed who was behind the deception before it was revealed in the book, but that did not detract from it or lose my attention as i was dying to know if i was right or not. There were a lot of undercurrents and complexities to the story, which i believe added to the sense that this could really have happened. I got a real sense of conflict and an understanding of the dirty moves that seem to be rife in politics while reading, as well as a strong feeling of staff loyalty and powerful positioning going on. The book gave me that edge of terror that comes with being almost too close to the truth, as well as a feeling of satisfaction for having read it. I also believe the scientific information was covered well with sufficient explanation for me to understand the technical side.

There is a romantic sub plot to the book that appears to just add a bit of extra reading and what i would call the awwww factor, but in my view that was quite unnecessary and did detract a bit from the overall quality of the read.

I would compare the book to an episode of 24, the TV series that puts special agents into impossible situations in order to save the world from catastrophe - i really enjoyed that series and Deception Point entertained me in the same way. A very enjoyable read which was as described on the cover "Unputdownable".

If you want to purchase this one i can recommend Amazon for paper copy or digital, you might also like to view some other books by Dan Brown as well.  I thought this 6 book collection looked like a good buy:

So, thats my opinion on this book, I hope you find it useful.  I would say i will be reading some more of Dan Brown's books now (probably from the collection above lol) and will of course let you know when i do!

Pharmaton Activit G and Capsules Review

Okie Dokies its about time i started giving my opinion about a few things ;) been busy setting up some other blogs etc but am here now!

Today i thought i'd share my thoughts and experiences of Pharmaton Active G, why that? well i started taking it again about 4 days ago and so i can give you my current impression.

I started taking it a few days ago as i said and the reason was......well i was just feeling a bit blah.  I've not been sleeping too well, i've not been eating properly and my energy levels were zero more or less.  I should also mention that i have severe depression and have had for years - that's a constant battle for me, but this pattern of not sleeping etc seemed a bit different than the usual ups and downs i have.

I choose Pharmaton simply because i had taken it years ago when i went through a particularly difficult time and my immune system was shot to bits.  I had tried everything back then to improve my health levels but the constant cycle of bugs, colds, headaches etc etc continued on for months.  One day while browsing through the shelf of vitamins and supplements i saw the box of Pharmaton capsules - reading the box was like one of those uuuuhuuuuh thats me with every line moments.  It was expensive for me at the time - i wasn't working and it was about £12 for a one month course.......well i had tried so many things i thought sod it, health is much more important than money - i left the shop with an empty purse and a box!

Long story, short - they made a huge difference to me and i have recommended them constantly ever since.

So, again while browsing the vitamins aisle in the local pharmacy i came across Pharmaton Activit G.  These are soluble tablets that make a vitamin drink and i thought i'd give them a try.  I certainly needed G-ing up LOL!

I noticed the difference in my energy levels within 1 day of taking these, so much so that i thought flippin Nora what is going on with me today? I cleaned the house, i sorted emails, i did some crafting and felt like me for the first time in dear knows how long.

Now i do have to say i got a little bit worried - big mood swings from down to up are not the best of signs for someone with my mental health issues, and i also thought there is no mission of me sleeping.  I did sleep though, i had a great nights sleep and am still feeling good 4 days on.

I'm taking these first thing in the morning - just like having a pure orange juice with breakfast.  They dissolve within a few minutes and the flavour is grand - not exactly like pure orange juice but hey its medicine so it can't be made too nice, right?

One thing i did notice is it stains the glass quite a lot so i wouldn't use it in something that is likely to turn bright orange......its does appear to colour your urine a bit too, but not as bad as other similar products i've tried.

So, that's my opinion, all written by me and is a true representation of my experience.  Other people my find they have a different experience - all i know is the majority of people i recommend Pharmaton products to tell me they found them good as well!

Here is a link to the blurb about Pharmaton Activit G from Gordon's direct (i bought at my local Gordon's Pharmacy) should you wish to have a read of the official medical info (you really should!) Oh yes and today as i write this Activit G Fizzy Tablets are on offer for £1.99 for a pack of 10 (and no i'm not getting paid to direct you there lol!)

Yes i do have an opinion!

I'm one of those rather opinionated people who is not scared to say what i think.  In fact i get paid to give my opinion on things quite often - thats a nice bonus to being able to say what i actually think of something i have to say.

Those who know me know i am always going on about honesty, telling the truth and calling a spade a spade.  I'm not a mean person though, some people use those principles as an excuse to just rip into something or someone for the sake of it......

Sometimes people argue that if you don't have something good to say then you should keep it to yourself - why should you though? My view is its ok to say something that might not be nice as long as its something helpful - don't just be nasty for the sake of it.

That's my opinion anyway, its how i live my life and quite frankly i don't mind if you agree with it or not!

So thats me, and this blog will be all about me sharing my opinion on things - sometimes you might agree, and sometimes you might disagree, but thats ok cos you are allowed to have your opinion too :)
